How do to get into student exchange programs?

For a few years know I've dreamed of going to Japan. But I cannot afford a trip there. But then I thought what if I was an exchange student. But I don't know how to put myself in that program or where to find such a program. I need help to accomplish this so post if you have any useful information...please!

first requirement for a student exchange program is to be a student. Second, find a program through your school or an independant study program that you qualify for. Third, make sure you have enough money to cover all of the expenses, either through your own money, financial aid, scholarships, or loans.

If you have graduated from university already, it is still possible to do exchange studies.

exchange program

Hi,

I am going to Japan in March for a one year exchange.
I also dreamed of going on exchange to another country especially japan.
And again could not of covered the costs.

My school takes in Japanese Exchange students and has never put any of there own students on an exchange though.

In September they gave me and 2 other guys scholarships (well they call them as scholarships) I have to pay for my flight and insurance and speanding money but they will pay for homestay, food, school, books etc.

So maybe just find out about your school and see if they have any programs.

I also got mine on a 'scholarship' because I go to a private school and they thought it will be good advertising if they send us over ...lol

I want to go to high school exchange in Japan too. Try AFS theirs is great and they are not as expensive as others. That's the organization I'm going with.

High school exchange? Is that even possible? How would they accommodate lessons in English? At such a young age, I doubt even for second generation Japanese students who have strict parents would be able to compete with the high school students in Japan being a high school student oneself, let alone the rest of us.

Mm, this is more of a 'cultural exchange', you go to high school, but you do not do anything during class (or so I understand), and that's pretty cool because these students can fully concentrate on what the country has to offer (in this case, Japan). Only bad thing is that it is very hard to get credit for the classes, so most exchange students have to re-do a school year when they get back to their host country.

I really don't know, it is 18 years at age of departure or something like that, and if you want to do this exchange thing, too, you should check on your local AFS, Rotary or YFU organization.
