how do japanese see southamericans?

hi everyone, i was thinking of moving to japan for a while when i finish college. but i've seen a lot of racism topics. is it a mayor problem to be from southamerica? i'm not native american, so i look like caucasian. but still is it a mayor problem for working or having friends or just living your everyday life?

What do you plan on doing here once you arrive? The way you are perceived will be greatly affected by your behavior and the people you are with. There is some prejudice, but it's generally not as bad as some people make it out to be. Everyone has their own story of living in Japan, and it's rarely all good or all bad.

from a superficial standpoint, if you look caucasian, you'll be able to avoid a good deal of prejudiced behavior specifically targetting South Americans.

In Latin America there is a lot of racism too... so what's the problem?

Besides... I think Japanese worry more if you are Filipino, Korean, Chinese... they know about that.

I doubt that most Japanese could discriminate (in the sense of "differentiate") between a Brazilian or an Argentinean or a Chilean... and if you look "Caucasian" (but not from Grozny ), most people will assume you are an "American" (from the USA)... that's a point discussed here now and then.


Practice your Japanese. That will make a difference.

I am a Mexican, so I am Latin American too. And I will not say if I look Amerindian or White... since that differentiation is stupid to me: Your own racism and prejudice could be easily go with you, wherever you go. So be careful.

Look, the Japanese Peruvians and the Brazillian Japanese are seen as foreigners also. They are given Gaijin card also. (I feel that they should be given a Nikkeijin card, rather than the same gaijin card that I would have to carry if I go to Japan) They are not exactly guests as this is their ancestral homeland, so they ought to have rights that I wouldn't be entitled to as a guest.
