holidays mandatory for workers

I Bet....
a lot of wives and kids would like having their dad spend time with them! It would probably stress some work-a-holics and possibly the economy?

its much better for society, i think one of the main problems with kids is that they don't get Good attention from there parents, you need 2 parents, not only 1. also i think japanese people will see much more of Life, and the world, and would become much less ignorant about some things!!!..

I think it would be a great idea if more japanese people were made to take time off work for a variety of reasons- it would help family life and help lower stress levels and perhaps even divorce rates, even if the goverments motives are rather for the economy and child birth rates rather than care for the average worker, its a start

As a book i have said; "Because of the working hours and demands on their time including commutes, to support their family, many husbands sacrifice time with their family to earn the paycheck, making many japanese families are de facto single parent deals.
Sounds like a plan to help families be more like families.

If Japanese people don't want their vacation days,
send them over to the states.
Wish we had such a law here in the States.
Well, similar...
It seems most holidays are for white collar workers - bankers, and government
employees.
Except for about 6 main ones.
And those part-time workers in sales (retail) often still have to work.
(Christmas having the most people off)
Part-timers should at least get "part time vacation".
40hrs a week is the official full-time. So 20hrs a week should
be given half the vacation hours.
I work part time, what can I say...
Many people I work with work multiple jobs.
Still no paid vacation.
There's lots of laws about 'changing culture'.
Drug laws are one example:
In the states - "Social control" - poor peoples' drugs are illegal,
marijuana, crack, (although MJ has been making inroads do to it
being less harmful than cigarettes or alchohol).
While acohol is a socially accepted drug of choice.
Also cocaine carries a lighter sentance than the equivalent amount
of crack. Rich folks' drug vs poor persons' drug.
This disparity in sentancing is actually....how shall I say it...
racist. Since what is the image of the crack smoker and
the image of the coke-head? Statistics will back this up.

I would believe it. It would take something like this to simply break the social pressure that everyone assumes on themselves. I well recall the joking that went around about applying daylight savings time in order to let public school teachers (1st~12th grades (US)) go home while there would still be some daylight. The joke was that even so, the teachers would still hang around until twilight just waiting for the first person to make a move.
The inbred through society concept that it's not good to stand out--the ole 'the nail sticking out will be hammered back down' proverb--has enforced the feelings that helps keeps a person from being first to break pack. Nobody instigates action until someone instigates action. Perhaps it could be that dillemma which the government is trying to break?
