Are there any special education programs in Japan that teaches students who needs special educators?

In Canada I'm going to enroll in a program called ASE, it's for the disabled people(usually just the mentally challenged, like myself). In Canada I don't have to pay for special education.

I even get free money, free dental care, free health care, and free glasses. I was wondering if it's similar in Japan. Does the Japanese government provide anything good for the Japanese citizens who are disabled?

Hey GoodBilly welcome. All I can share with you is from my own experiences here in Japan. Hopefully others can as well too.

Firstly there are many disabled people here in Japan too. The government does provide health services and a stipend for those that can not provide for themselves, however it also depends on how challenged the person is. I dont know about the total amount available to each person, but from what I have heard it really isn't enough for the person to live on their own with. Yet the government does cover their medical costs if their is no family able to support them. There are also government run facilities for people who can not take care of themselves as well.

There is a workshop close to where I live and the people that work there are all mentally or physically challenged. They spend their days doing very menial tasks and receive very little compensation for their work. Sadly though many are all too aware about their surroundings or circumstances yet they are able to enjoy being in the company of the people that they work with, which is better than being shut in and doing absolutely nothing day in and day out.

There unfortunately still are "stigma's" associated with special needs people here in Japan. For too many years the Japanese people were truely unaware, or wished not to know about this part of their society. Too many facilities are still not barrier free, and too many business still refuse to employee special needs people.

However it is not all totally bleak, the atmosphere has been slowly changing and barriers are slowing coming down in regards to special needs people in Japan. Education is also coming on line even now that is helping to teach the younger generation about people with special needs.

Thanks for elaborating on the Japan's people, with special needs thing. Hmm it seems to me the Japanese government don't provide for the special needs, as much as the Canadian government does. If it's a baseball game, I'm going to say I'm staying on this base. It isn't worth the risk for a home run.

Now I know, I understand a lot more about the Japanese disabled citizens, but I still have many questions to ask. The next question I'm about to ask may sound humoring to the normal people, but please don't laugh. You see the Canadian government provides almost anything for me, to keep me healthy. Even the Canadian government may provide a lot of things for me, they're still lacking one thing for my well being.

I'm a 20 years old man now, in perfectly good physical condition, I don't have any physical health problems. Anyways the point is, I feel really bad because I lack "companionship". I just don't understand, why there's organization such as "Disability Resource Centers", "The Local region's special olympic(there's a group for every region)". But why don't our government make a dating help service for people like me?

Many people comment that I look completely normal. I feel so hopeless. Once at an official swim meet, I met this girl, and I thought I strook gold but it turns out she was a volunteer, I lost all hopes again.



Please reply with detailed advices, if possible even provide information that can help me case.

Goodbilly I am not tryin to be sarcastic or anything but I have read a few of your posts and I honestly can't tell that you have mental difficulties, your writing style sounds just as 'intelligent' as about the average person, perhaps you could elaborate on your specific condition if it is not too personal for you?

Yeah people always found my conditions to be rather interesting. Like the many psychiatrists, and psychologists that does my assessments. The major mental illness I have that causes a major impact on me towards living a normal life is, or least this is what they claim. They say it is because of the fact that, I have a behavior, and personality that is socially unacceptable.

I failed many things, you know? but still I never given up on myself. It's people who given up on me, but I really can't blame them. Do you know why? because I lived for twenty years now, and I always been a hell raiser.

Twenty years... it's a long time, and ever since I was in preschool. They tried their best, they always given their best. They tried to look for new ways to teach me, they tried the best methods available.

Tell me this, honestly tell me. Even if you were one of the special educator, would you have given up? would you have got tired of saying Billy get the heck off the tables, Billy damnmit come back here. The government given me many chances but I failed again, and again. I even tried going the employment path, but guess what? it's either the employer thinking that my intelligent is below the intelligent of an animal, and maybe is true that my short term memory is poorer than an animal's. or it's the other thing, I'm socially unacceptable.


Soon I'm going to a special educational program, ASE(adult special education), I have the same feeling like always, they don't expect too much from us, they never expect us "barbarians", or "animals" to keep employment. Adult special education is different from the children special education. That's because nowadays they're more like wanting to confine us in a classroom at a college.

and one more thing, almost everyone finds that I look completely normal, but like they say, you can't judge a book by it's cover.
