hitmen: fact or fiction?

i was pondering the thought of hitmen being not real like thoughts of fiction, that you just see in movies, because everyone think about it for a moment has anyone here seen a story of someone being assassinated in there local paper, because i surely haven't, and to come to think of it the only place i have heard of a hitman is in films and so on,

i know they want to be know as infamous [famous but unknown] but i dont know any infamous ones either.
so does anyone have a hard evidence proving that hitmen do wander the streets with us fellow people.

i read on here that bounty hunter wants to become a hitman and part of the yakuza, and i find him foolish for wanting that, he hasn't thought about how lonely it is or what it really entails to kill someone.
