Hey, I'm new and I was looking for a good Japanese forum so I could learn a little more about Japanese culture. I'm watch some anime, but i really love Rurouni Kenshin. Its amazing. Anyways...I live in America i'm 15, almost 16 not short but not tall and I have brown hair. I did karate for about 5 years, but I just recently stoped. I was hoping I could make a few Japanese friends and learn a little bit more about your culture. There is one question in particular I need some help with. My friend told me that in school if you did well on a test you would be "rewarded" by your teacher or your mother. I doubt this so I thought I could get some information from Japanese people. I don't mean any disrespect, if this is true its probably a sensitive topic, but its something I have been wondering about.

Lots of people I know often get into Japanese culture and language through anime, however few people go much beyond that.
As for your questions however, if you are really interested in Japanese society and culture, you might go to one of the sites that has a penpal program. Simply put up an ad and list your interests with your email. I forget the specific sites, but I'm sure someone here knows one. I believe it was www.japan-guide.com but I am not sure. Just keep the same level of politeness you are posting with and I'm sure you'll make a few good friends you can share culture topics with.
