What parts don't you get ? If absolutely nothing, I would recommend shorter sentences with less difficult kanji and fewer possibilities for structural ambiguity.
i need some clarification because i dont have anybody discuss it with. japanese and english are not my 1st language, and i learn japanese from english reference, so when i attempt to translate something like this, i don't have self confindence on the result

という is for quotation, の is the explanatory の, and か is for question. In this case, 私も王の権威に頼っていた is not someone else's words but the speaker's own thought/idea (he realized it with surprise).

I just threw that out because 実践 is still a bit less understandable to me and 実用的 is an adjective with a similar meaning. Whether the 実用 version can be used to replace it naturally I guess depends on any major differences in usage and interpretation.

it's the first time i know it also mean "negative conditional"
実行する seems more like executing a policy, belief or idea into practice whereas 実践 would involve the opposition between theory and implementing it in a real world application. 実用 can be used to express the content (information, textbook etc) as opposed to mechanics of carrying out an operation. But that was my assumption of the core meanings and major differences after comparing a few sentences, there are surely many more cases where a replacement is possible.
