Question Help me identify these traditional Japanese songs & genre

Hi all,

I recently ate at a traditional Japanese restaurant and they were playing beautiful music in the background. I felt a natural connection to the music.

The music sounds like some kind of traditional/singing/opera music. I apologise for the background noise which makes it harder to hear.

It's hard to tell over the background noise—sounds like Japanese folklore from the 1930s to the 1960s. I hope our experts know more.

If it's not to far away , I'd ask the people who work there . I bet they could even show you their CD's they use.

Thank you for the advice Thomas and Grandpa Frank . Unfortunately I was travelling, and none of the staff were able to answer me about where the music was coming from. I will try to do some of my own research based on your suggestion Thomas.
