Haruki Murakami is a fake !

You people sensationalize a sub-standard writer to the degree that makes me feel queasy ! It's almost ashame how she can try to be like Ryu Murakami who is truly a master in the field of writing.

Well, Murakami Haruki is a man.
I for one like both Ryu and Haruki Murakami.
Sure both of them might be labelled as Contemporary novelists, however they have substantially different writing styles.
I have read the english translations of both authors, and dont see any validity for your thinking that Haruki Murakami is trying to be like Ryu Murakami.
I dont think that either are trying to be the same as the other. The only similarity is that they share the same family name.
Maybe I am wrong, but isnt Haruki Murakami older than Ryu Murakami?
Also I dont really see how Haruki Murakami is a fake?

You are absolutely right ! Sorry for being abnoxious ! Actually, I don't know anything about Haruki Murakami, just wanted to stir some debate. Ryu Murakami, however is amazing. I've read all of his books and a few of his movies !

Which of his books have been made into film? I think I would like to watch them....

If you do decide that you might like to venture further afield into the Murakami world of novels available, and *shock* happen to come across Haruki Murakami, I think that a good one as a first to read is 'Wind up Bird Chronicle' Actually thats my favourite by him.
There is maybe one that I didnt quite enjoy as much as the others... but you can figure that one out for yourself, others may have liked it.

The first movie which was written and directed by Ryu Murakami
is entitled "Because of You" starring Saki Takaoka & Carlos Osorio. It's a story of a twenty-one year old lady (Kyoko; Saki Takaoka) who visits NewYork in search of her dance teacher who taught her dance when she was a young girl. Jose (Carlos Osorio) is terminally ill and is unable to remember her. The movie is a celebration of life and dance ! Great low-budget movie. Make sure to bring lots of tissue.

The second movie is a film by Takashi Miike but was based off a story by Ryu Murakami entitled " Audition " which a twisted sadomasochistic movie that will have you biting your nails ! A must see !

err, well to fight for murakami (haruki)--- i loved all his books and i never heard a word of ryu! *wonders*

i think sputnik sweetheart is really good! and --- ahh i dont know how its called in english... err... "the 100% girl i saw one beautiful morning in april" is the one to one translation... its a novel colletion... and i could read it again and again! awesome!
im not interested if some authors copied this or that author it point is: did they changed it to the better? did they improved it, not did they invented it...

I read hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World in English and liked it a lot. Norweigan wood and (Norway no Mori) and South of the Border, West of the Sun I read in Japanese, they were very similar to each other. His books are quite easy to read in the original, 1st person narrative all the way....
