What a wonderful thread we have here!
My first time at a Tigers game was one of the most incredible experiences in Japan. The friend I went with bought these strange balloons and he wouldn't tell me why, then later I understood, WOW!
I thoroughly recommend also visiting Koshien for the high school tournaments, you can sit for free in the outfield, I think, and it's an interesting day out.

The season is almost getting started again (well, from the beginning of April but the trainings camp and the practicing games started recentely), and I am happy to be able to watch the games every day on tv.
I do hope to visit one of their games this season, even though I don't really know with whom I should go besides my "Crazy mother in law".

...Only if I could afford the Shinkansen and accomodation... lol
Well, the tickets for this season went on sale on Feb. 28th, and my husband and I tried very hard to buy them at Lawson and Ticket Pia online shop, but ended with no luck. The tickets for the outfield were ALL sold out in 2 hours. Meh.
But I suppose it's not like all of those who bought or reserved the tickets will go watch the game; they buy them just because they will sell it at much higher price or auction it afterwards... Dang it.
Anyway, I do hope they will play good this year too.

Oh, don't get disapointed. I only tried to purchase the tickets for Saturday games and holiday games(during GW and such) only, as I can't go there on weekdays), even limited to the outfield seats(Right field) and Yellow seats(seats on the first-base side).
So, there are still many tickets left for infields for weekdays and some for weekends!
But... transportation to and from Koushien, tickets, beers, snacks, balloons... Not only time but also money does fly when you have fun, eh? -_-;
Just for your info, a ticket for outfiled seat is 1,700yen, a beer is about 500yen or so(and I believe you can buy a can of beer at the supermarket next to stadium beforehand and bring it in, then it's cheaper), and train ticket from Kyoto to Koshien, it's about 800yen one way. (And Jet-Fuusen, balloon, is 200yen for 4 pieces)

If I have to drink beer, I would get it outside the stadium. I don't need to eat at the game, either, and I'm pretty sure I won't need the balloons. So, 1700 for an outfield seat plus 1600 for the train to and from Koshien from Kyoto (Station, I assume). Hmm, looking at a 3300 base price, eh? Well, I guess I'll have to see how things go. Oops, I was a bit wrong about beer price... 600Yen for 500ml beer.
Also, I found out now that they started to check your belongings before entering the stadium since last year: they don't allow us to bring "can" or "bottle" drinks anymore. However, "pet bottle"(plastic bottle) drinks are still allowed to bring in, and wow, the supermarket near by started selling a beer in a plastic bottle. lol
I've never seen one before! xD

Aww, no, 600Yen per cup beer but, it contains 500ml. ^^;
Koshien food/drinks are actually one of the cheapest among other stadiums, I believe!
Look at Tokyo Dome... 800Yen per cup.... If you get 3 beers... it'll cost you more than a seat ticket itself... Outrageous... meh.
