Osaka erects bridge fences to stop Hanshin fans jumping off
OSAKA -- In a bid to prevent people from leaping into the Dotonbori River to celebrate the Hanshin Tigers win in the Central League championship, Osaka officials have started erecting fences around popular jumping spots.
On Friday, Osaka Municipal Government officials started putting up 3-meter-high steel fences on the east side of the Ebisu Bridge and both sides of the Tazaemon Bridge. They were expected to finish erecting the barriers by Saturday evening.
Workers first erected steel frames over the bridges and then fixed white sheets of steel to them. On the day the Tigers win the pennant, the entrances of paths leading to the Ebisu and Tazaemon bridges will also be blocked off.
It is customary for Osaka sports fans to take the plunge into the Dotonbori to celebrate notable occasions.
The Tigers are almost certain to win the pennant which could be decided as early as Tuesday. (Mainichi)

No, its gotta be the most heavily polluted river on the planet.Kara_Nari said:Wow, I really want to go and watch them play!

Thanks, Jeff!flashjeff said:Nope. Not likely. There's bound to be a team out there that will take a flyer on Bobby V if the price is right. I'm sure George Steinbrenner has Valentine's number on speed dial and might have used it if Joe Torre had quit. Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if Bobby is Big George's first choice to replace Torre should he ever leave.
