My dad was in the Navy. That's why I was in Japan from 1970 to 1974 (graduating from Zama High). I loved my time there! Later (1978 - 1980) I returned to Japan as a missionary with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints---the Mormons! I loved it more, especially the people I had the chance to meet and get to know in the central areas of Japan where I was living. Now, 26 years later, I'm still trying to get a firmer grasp on the language. It's tough living in a more rural part of Southeastern USA to progress with the language.

But why bother? I can't tell you why. I just want to. I can say why it is not! I don't hope to move to Japan, get a job that uses it, I don't watch anime, or read manga, or listen to rap or pop music. I see these as reasonable and valid motivations for many people. I don't seem to have a reasonable or valid motivation. Well, unless you think that "I just want to" is a good enough reason. I don't really know what I think about that. I just feel uh--moved-- to do it.

So, if any of my new friends can help me, in the forum or otherwise, yoroshiku onegaishimasu!

Most welcome CharleyGarrett, everyone has their own reasons to be here and be linked with some of the same interests, no matter what or how small they are. The main thing is that you enjoy yourself here and can share your views and opinions with us all.

Just a small question: Are you still Mormon? (don't worry, I respect peoples believes and like to share views and opinions on the matter)
