Hachiro was banned?

Did the though ever occur that he might have thought you wanted to be removed like some other members like MikeCash and Hachiro? :) I can't seem to find a reason why you should've been banned from Eupedia to be honest.

I didn't see a reason either. To be truthful, I was like the rest, I didn't agree with automatically becoming a member. It seemed like a ploy, to me, to show the forum as having a huge member count, when it had truly only just began. A marketing ploy.

But, since I was a member, I went there a few times and made a few posts, nothing flaming. A few days later I was banned. Not sure if it was, as you mentioned, because of what happened here, or some other reason. I posted there more to help them out...it's quite desolate there!

Hateful: The link he quoted in his thread was nothing more then an insulting hateful rant against all Europeans.

Well, it isn't as though Americans haven't had to sit back and listen to a constant stream of the anti-American crap flowing from Europeans. That sort of thing is okay, though. But God forbid somebody makes a remark about Europe that Europeans don't like......

^Leave it to Mike to put things into proper perspective.

I don't think Hachiro's post was hateful in its content. And it can't be a legitimate reason to ban a person based on his political view on things. It would be weird indeed to value posts according to the political content, be it pro-this or anti-that.

He was told to take it to chit-chat......then ended up getting banned when he took it to chit-chat.

Outrageous, but given the general lack of integrity (and make sure you think of all the meanings of "integrity") here, hardly surprising.

I spose theirs a grain of truth in that mike, my impression was the thread was flame-bait, it was made purely to goad a fire-fight.

Meh, Hach is gone anyway, I think he was banned for his response to the thread closure rather then the actual thread itself.

Back to proper threads people, nothing more to see here. :p

Hachiro is/was a woman, though, right ? :p
Anyway, I also hope the ban is temporary. The positive discussions she opened up here certainly outweighs the harm of a few bad tempered missteps....

I thought Hachiro is/was a man.
Hachiro is a male name and he said his shoes size was 34cm or so
and his height is almost 2 meters.....

I think Hachiro was a good contributer to Jref, but even I believe at times he was being kind of obnoxious.

A-ha! Kyoko was taking his measure! ;)

Didn't she sometimes talk about her (Japanese) husband, though ?
It likely wasn't their real name in any case. 😌

Hachiro was banned beacuse he openly defied the moderation team...Maciamo was not involved in his thread at all..... and he continued to repost his thread in more violent way and clearly seeking provocation from other european members by insistantly calling their continent a coward and having no objective discourse in his argument whatsoever. Several members tried to respond objectively to his original thread but as expected it began to turn into sparks. Then he re-posted it in a way to instigate even more the european members on this board. He was looking for a fight, plain and simple.

I can see that the remnants of his previous thread are begining to sprout here so please let's just try not to get carried over, i'm very tempted to lock this thread but I trust the impressive diplomatic ability of all members here so don't prove me wrong :-)

What's to be offended about?

OK, well this is starting to make a little more sense if insulting a continent, national group, race whatever with "coward!?" (or anything comparably denigrating) in the title of a thread is sufficiently inciting for a ban in itself. Which actually no doubt it would be if the subject matter was Japanese or Chinese....☝

I hope to post again later today, but in the meantime, just a thought:

Does anyone remember when McTojo was banned? Before he actually was banned, a thread was made where he had a week to respond to the charges made against him.

Now people are banned without notice.

Why the change? I must say, I like the old way better.

Personally i had no problem with him calling europe a coward...everyone is entitled to their opinion...i could care less.

However I do have a problem with thim coming back flaming a thread in more agressive manner so that he'd get a reaction to his instigation.

I've had my spats with Hachiro in the past. There've been times when I loathed the guy, but I have to feel like he got the short end of the stick here.

This forum is a community of people with an interest in Japan. Hachiro, living over a decade, maybe two, in Japan, was very much a part of this community. People in a Japan-related community don't always want to talk about Japan, and I've seen dozens of topics here unrelated to Japan. The notion that he should have to go to a completely separate forum, frequented by completely different people, in order to have a single Europe-related discussion, is preposterous.

Just because nurizeko says that Hachiro was flame-baiting and spamming, that doesn't make it true. Nurizeko has an inferiority complex from living in a country that most people don't even know is a country, and hates the US because that's the cool thing to do, so it's natural that he would respond to criticism of Europe in much the same way as George W Bush would respond to criticism of himself. This is the same guy (nurizeko) who called Harry Truman a genocidal war criminal about 20 times in a single thread.

Hachiro seemed to be trying to resist the management of this board, which is slowly growing to resemble the SS. Responsible modding does not involve making threads disappear without a trace, when they contain earnest discussions and posts from people. It doesn't involve locking a thread and then proceeding to have your own mod lecture, and it doesn't involve banning people (as far as we know) without warning. There has been no mention so far of Hachiro having been warned, so it only stands to reason that he wasn't.

I do not know if Hachiro was banned by warning or not...no matter though.
As I said before, common sense should prevail. This forum is just like real public life. In real life do you need a warning that shooting someone or provoking somone is wrong and that you may get penalized? Hachiro perhaps didn't even give the time to be warned because he acted quickly and without thinking in his instigatin against moderators and other members on this forum..the consequence of that is that he had to be banned. I resent the SS comment. I think most of the moderators here are very kind, diplomatic, and polite and are taking time from their life to provide a service for the well-being of this community. I'd say that they are getting the end of a short stick here by being "crucified" for the completely justifiable banning of an instigator.

There is a reason that the people who are moderators here are such. They have proven themselves with the community and the admins. So please let's try to show a little more appreciation, frankly i'm getting a bit irrated of moderators here being crucified when they have done anything but deserve such antagonism.

The two issues here seem inextricably intertwined then since the first one probably wouldn't have been deleted in the first place had it not been Europe related....

yes that was why the thread was originally deleted because it didn't belong in the japan section and we have been trying to keep a clear distinction between Europe and Japan related threads

So if he had insisted on posting a completely positive upbeat thread with an article to share his love of Europe and European culture and thought it might be an easier place to live than Japan, was even considering moving there in the future etc...the same situation would have unfolded in exactly the same way ? 😊

*Notice to Admins* we may want to make the forum rules easier to find...maybe place the link near the reply window instead of at the bottom of the page?

Point taken. Thanks, CC1! :-)
