Hello!
My name is Luke, and I'll be heading to the Yamasa Institute next year in April for intensive language study. I'm already studying my kana and kanji and core grammer basics (should be able to pass the JLPT Lvl 1 before I head out) and I finally got my finances ironed out to the point where paying for the tuition won't be a problem. I started my interest in Japanese culture a while back by reading manga, and it's developed to a passion over the past couple of years. But I've honestly never found time to study the Japanese History and mythology. I find references and such when researching the background of certain manga (such as Susanoo from "Naruto", which is a reference to the Shinto god of seas and storms), but I've never become aquainted with Shinto Mythology and such. I'm personally a Christian so I obviously am not looking to religiously invest myself in Shinto, but this subject still interests me so I'd like to learn as much about it as possible. Are there any good websites or books that give a good general overview of Japanese history and mythology? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
