There is no need to do it. Wrong kanji, wrong stroke order, many kanji written by the same hand,,, it would be a fake flag.

Thank you for your knowledge. The story is... My friends uncle brought this home from Pearl Harbor, and that’s all we know. Maybe he did. I’ve done a little research and read that some of our military men made fake flags to bring home or to sell. Maybe this is one of them? Do they have any value?

The value is whatever somebody is willing to pay for it. Check around on sites where people are selling them.
