getting colder

FINALLY it is getting colder!!! Don't get me wrong, I love Japanese summer it's just that it's tooooooo long. I'm always happy when it's getting colder, although when it's cold in Japan it's actually cold inside as well. Back in Holland we had central heating so even during the winter it would still be around 15 ~ 21 degrees inside our house.

Japanese houses are just bloody cold inside.... or is it just our place?

Anyway, how do you stay warm during the winter days?

I drink coffee, wear long underwear, jackets, walk around with funny socks, and more hot coffee.

He-he, drinkin' more hot beverages at winter time makes me pee all the time, but I can not resist of cup of green tea. Black tea with milk is good at cold time also.

Clothes in multiply layers are my answer to cold time. Another good thing is ability to keep body relaxed. My dog like to sit on my laps, and that is avesome source of warmth, unless it starts typing

Before moving to Japan I never understood the people complaining that it was cold there.
I checked and saw that they had like 10°C in Tokyo whereas we had like -20°C back home.

AFTER moving I totally understood! It's just like Davey says, the inside is so cold due to bad insulation.

I try to stay warm wearing as many layers as possible, drinking lots of hot tea, using my hot water bottle(s) and my beloved kotatsu. What sucks is that you usually can only afford to keep one room warm. As soon as you leave that room, you'll freeze!

No furnace to heat house??

I remember living under the Kotatsu with a big quilt wrapped around my top half. Coming from a cold climate in Maine, I could not believe they made homes without a heating system. Twice while in Fukuoka, we got snow. I sent for some insulated long underwear from L.L. Beans which helped a little. I did hate the hot muggy weather more than the short cold season though.

Yeah, I guess drinking hot tea, with lemon in it is a bit better than drinking coffee.... on lonely Sunday night a glass of Whiskey would be nice as well.

It kind of makes me miss smoking a bit... makes your longs nice and warm during the cold days... (I'm glad that I have only smoked 3 cigarettes in the last 5 years though... I used to smoke a pack a day)

We have a kotatsu in the closet but since we have 2 little monkeys at home it's kind of hard to take it out and use it. Let's give it a try this year.

In the winter to stay warm I sit beside the heater
but this year i can't because most people here can't get gas or fuel
and we stay without electricity around 12 hours everyday

so the best thing i do is to go to bed and stay under the wool cover

finally my best season, After the CRAZY heat [ including Sand storms ] i can live like Eskimo bear.
And ofc more Tea, coffee and cookies ...
Last summer the heat reached 60 degrees... You cant touch your car door sensor, i use tissue to open it fast.

In Syria the winter is cold but it isn't very cold like north Europe
winter in Syria smiliar to the winter in south east europe(greece,turkey)
and my region situated in the north west corner of Syria so it's colder and wetter than other parts of Syria
in Januray in my region the average temperature in the noon is 10 degrees
and the average temperature in the night is 2 degrees
generally we can see snow one time or two times in the winter
and this is a photo from my city last winter

It got really cold these days in Japan (today's weather is pretty good though), so lots of people are wearing masks and even my kids are sick.

Of course if they used insulation they could save even more energy. Not only that but the buildings would stay warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Use of both heaters and air conditioners could be reduced. Does anyone know why buildings are insulated so poorly in Japan? Is it really expensive or something?

Its been cold the last of days here in Maine. I just keep on a hoodie and get under the blanket and have my three cats cuddle up under there with me... Toasty..... If that don't work just set yourself on fire......
