German Entertainment?

So I can hear the language, and get a taste of the pop culture, I would appreciate any recommendations for German movies, music, etc.

The more recent the better.

Soehne Mannheims... The best band ever!!! The singer Xavier Naidoo is awesome!! ^__^ ... The melanholic songs about death, God, love etc are so incredible... or Oomph! But, that's no Pop... so... <_<
And movies... Bully: "Der Schuh des Manitu" or "Traumschiff"... ^^

you're lucky, a fellow-user from another forum (producer-network.de) has just released a very nice german hiphop compilation - for free (produced by himself - this guy's absolutely amazing) - in decent quality.
some nice beats and loops, and relatively clean and slow german lyrics.

i also recommend 'die fantastischen vier' and their best album 'lauschgift' from 1995 ((discogs nfo)

these guys have a unique style, their lyrics are intelligent and dynamic. i would say they're the swabian version of the beastie boys.

give new german hiphop releases from lables like 'aggro berlin' a wide berth, their lyrics are absolutely appaling.

movies - just get german versions of your favorite flicks - it's imho the easiest way to get familiar with foreign languages.

I bet everyone says it, but... Rammstein. I really like that band! ^^
Also Samsas Traum are a very good German rock band, they are less heavy than Rammstein and very 'German'... XD. Interesting...

Lola Rennt is a great German movie.
And then there are those great tv-series, like Derrick, Der Alte, Commisaris Rex, Die sendung mit der maus.

You could watch movies Das Experiment or Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo [both quite shocking, but I don't remember any other right now]

About music, you can check out music channel Viva or it's web page. They always have latest hits. Oh, and as Kinsao said, Rammstein

I also remembered one comic book, but I don't know if you'd like it -> MAUS by Art Spiegelman [about holocaust...]

rammstein's nice but their lyrics can easily be misinterpreted.

'Herr Lehmann' is one of the best German films ever. If you're looking for awesome music, check out 'Tomte', 'Wir Sind Helden' and 'Julia' - nice Indie music. I recommend all books of Kafka if you want German literature.
Generally, I'd say the proof of the pudding is the eating - just visit Germany as it is the best way to learn German.

Anyways, the best German movie I've ever seen is "Der Untergang". The other one is "Good Bye Lenin". Yes, I've only seen two German movies
