furi o suru

Hello.

Can smb explain me the use of "furi o suru"? I'm confused with different sentences I got as examples.

知らないふりをする－To pretend not to know
日本語が分からないふるをする－To pretend not to understand Japanese

ふり basically means behaviour or conduct of sorts, so basically putting furi wo suru after anything means you pretended to do that.

It comes from the verb 振る and is also sometimes read buri
For example 増加ぶり - seeming like/giving off the air ..that it will increase

Maybe a Japanese person could confirm/correct what I have said as I am not a native speaker.
But that's my understanding of it!

振り（[を]する）
1: (Usually written using kana alone) pretence (pretense); show;
2: appearance; behaviour;

and on a related note, しらんぷりする【知らん振りする】 is a contraction (and slightly altered form) of "pretend not to know".
