For those who didn't make it to the interview (MEXT scholarship)

Well, I didn't pass the test to make it to the next round. So I actually emailed the guy from the embassy for the reason why, and at the same time clear up the math "rumor". lol


My email to them:

Dear XXX,

I have received the letter of outcome of the scholarship this afternoon (13July 2007).

I do have some enquiries and would like to have them clarified.

1. I would like to find out which portion of the test that I did not pass.

2. I would like to know what the requirements of the test that would grant a candidate an interview. There are rumours saying that the Maths paper is the most important factor in order to pass the preliminary selection. If so, then I don't think it's fair for others, including myself as we have never studied Additional Mathematics. The courses candidates chose should be taken into consideration while selecting those who will be shortlisted.

Dear XXX,



Thank you for your email.



1. Unfortunately, you did not obtain the minimum score required for the Maths and English exams. Your Maths was not good at all.



2. I am afraid the embassy does not disclose to the candidates the minimum grade required in order to pass the exams.



3. The rumours are not true. Both the Maths and English exams are equally important. Candidates must obtain the minimum grade required for both papers in order to be shortlisted for interview.

Seriously, I still dont see the connection between Interior Design and Math. But oh wells, since the guy tried to avoid my question, I don't think I'll try it again next year. It'll be the same outcome anyway, since he said in the mail that my maths was not good at all. lol

If you really wanted to do it you would study harder then. I think i can understand how you feel, actually my maths is terrible but to go onto my next year of uni i had to do it and just passed. The point of maths and english is probably to test your level of education, as much as i hate maths we do need it.
Well if you really, really want to do it you have year to study hard on your maths. If not then try not to have any regrets and best of luck in what ever you choose ;o))

first of all, I am sorry to hear this news.

second, if you really really want this, and do not have any other major plans in your life, take this year to study English, math, Japanese and study about interior design. (you might find a job as well, or something like that, I do not know about your preset situation)

then, thy again next year!

(am I saying this because you said you will not try because of his answer.. that shows me you had intention to try again... stick to it, and work hard)

I guess the problem is time. I have a full time job now, and frankly speaking, that boss of mine make us work from 9am to at least 9pm everyday, including saturdays. I'm no longer in school and it's a bit difficult for me to take up maths again, since it's been at least 4 years since i've last done it. Oh well, i'll see how it goes.

i feel sad for u. btw, i will apply again next year so should you. i also graduated from a school here and i did that math stuff and evrything bout 3 years ago. Come september, i will try to study again those subjects because i feel im close to their cut-off... it is also important to know that most scholarship grantees got the scholarship after applying the 2nd time around.

but then, that is the main reason you failed this time. just didn't have enough free time to study maths? don't get frustrated now, make a long term plan for studies for one year, and you'll make it for sure! ganbate ne!
