Fighting with host family

Alright, maybe some of you know from my whining on some forums about how I`m living in a bad host family.

I have told my exchange company about this and they are looking for a new host, which they have been looking for a month now.

From up to date everytime I see something thats disturbing or disgusting I tell myself (I`m changing host let it go). But now I`m at the point of speaking my mind with my host mother and brother. My host father has a temper; throwing rice boles, punching walls..etc. I fell if I tell my host brother or mother off my host father will pick a fight with me.

Can someone give me advice?
 
Hmm... this is tough we took in 2 exchange students (Thailand,Brazil) but they loved it here so the only real advice i can give you is do what i do at my house go out untill you have to absolutly comeback and that spares on the tension between everyone beacuse you are not around them for that long do this untill they can find you a new host family but it might be diffrent in your case i dont know too much about this sort of thing maybe someone else can help you better than i can my aunt took in one from venezualla that was tranfered to her from a case like yours maybe i can talk to her about it.
 
sure I would like to go out, my host family has to give me the permission first. I live in a small village where there`s nothing around but pachinko owned by the yakuza. At 11pm I can`t go out anymore since the cops tell me to go back home.

Go downtown for fun? I ran out of money, I have travels checks but I need one of my host parents to open a bank account and they don`t feel like going.
 
Do you have a teacher at school who is responsible for you? Ie. in charge of foerign students? Go talk to them, tell them the situation and ask if they can ask if any students are willing to host you. That would be very good thing to get done.
 
Hmm, very bad situation here...

I'm really not sure what to say, but I do know you need to get out of where you are as soon as possible for your own sake. Hopefully, someone like an admin or more experienced person in Japan on these forums will know of an opinion for you. Sorry I don't know what to say on this
 
If they're doing it for free, then it is considered to be a favor...

Luc, do your host family receive any money by letting you stay with them?
 
no but I`m supposed to teach my host brother english, and I don`t think what there doing to me as a favor.

e.g; I often get food that my host family didn`t eat from their plates on their last meal. So as for cost of me living there I don`t think it cost that much. I rather pay and be in a good family.

Also, my family back home is getting a Japanese so its even out.

It really doesn't sound good. But now you're stuck. If I were you, I would just suck it up...

Just think positively. At least you're learning to "fight" in Japanese. I wish I could do that in French.

Oh, but what about making some Japanese (or just people in Japan) friends? I used to know a visa student who didn't get along with her landlord. I let her stay in my place as often as she liked.
 
well I`m stuck till a new host family comes along, I sucked it up for 2 months I think that`s long enough.

I did tell my teacher about this but it was right before summer vacation so he didn`t have time to ask students about hosting me. I think I will call him up to see if he can do anything.
 
Yeah, get onto that teacher! I'm sure someone would have no problems hosting you
 
You found a place where they're willing to host you if you teach "the brother" English? So meaning this isn't an actual homestay place or related to homestaying? It's quite daring.
Well, anyways, I think you should find an actual government sponsored or trusted homestaying place where everyone in the family agrees to having a homestay person, which doesn't sound to be the case on your house now. ^^;
 
I don't think you get how homestay works Keiichi. A company puts out adverts for people who are willing to host a foreign student for any period of time and sends the said students details onto the family. Sometimes its done through the school and they handle all the details and sometimes its handled completly by the company. You'll come across some bad apples sometimes and othertimes get it good and have a great family.

2months is a very long time when your alone in a foreign country. Your lucky in the regard that you get on the internet a fair bit, I went cold turkey for my year
 
I see. I guess I've only thought about those that have hosted a couple of times. Doesn't some places have people usually write feedbacks about the family they stayed with?
 
ya I write feedback every month, when my company saw my report they decided to change me to a new host family. That`s all good but they have to find one first, it`s been a month since they told me that.

In Japan you need a bank account to exchange traveller's checks for cash???
 
oh yeah i forgot about that. i worked at a fast food place and even we took those things, just gave the people whatever change in cash. may be different in japan though.

my parents are pissed off, they can`t believe that my agency doesn`t do a background check before sending foreigners into a host.
 
Dear Luc.....

I'm sending you a package marked books. The thick book in the center of the pile is hollowed out.You will find a small semi-automatic pistol and a box of hollow-points.
That should solve the problem!! Be sure to send me the newspaper article that describes the shoot-out! I think if you aim right, you can become a permanent resident of Japan!

man thats steep, i sympathise with you. Which company are you with? You could talk to your company about being put with a welcome family (at least thats what my company does) or talk to them about the area supervisor taking you until they find you a host family. Where your living sounds a little dangerous. Try talking to your company and let us know how it goes. Good luck!!!
