My wife and I plan to visit the Taki-gun district of Mie prefecture to search for any historical information of her family who emigrated to Canada from Taki-gun over 100 years ago. Would anyone here know of anyone from that district who could assist us for a few days? Any ideas greatly appreciated!

I don't know how many posters on this board are from Mie. Not many, I think. You might cast a slightly wider net and also search for help in Nagoya or even Kyoto, which are far more metropolitan than any place in Mie.

Edit: I mean you might search for professional translators/interpreters in the Kyoto or Nagoya area. Either of those cities are reasonably accessible by car to Taki. If you are looking to do this on the cheap and not hire a professional translator, you might search for blogs written by Kyoto/Nagoya resident foreigners, and ping them to see if they can help. August is usually holiday month, so there might be somebody with free time on their hands who an help out.

Edit again: Osaka is also reasonably close.
