Does anyone moderate the Japanese Music forum?

It's like a wasteland in there... I've long since given up on it being anything but a senseless dumping ground for obsessed Romanian girls to drone on and on about their love of men in drag & their Super Dolfie relationships, but I stumbled across at least two pages of banter which devolved into what seems like people just typing random crap and hitting submit...

I thought Kinsao used to do that (moderate, that is), and then stepped down from the position. I know there isn't much to do concerning the subject matter... But from a forum point of view you might want to try to get a few users to cut down on just spamming the forum with random bullsh---.

Like a festering limb, the j-pop section needs to be cut off and buried somewhere where it can't seep into groundwater.

There are no regulars level-headed enough to moderate, and no one who wouldn't go insane from trying. I applaud kinsao for her efforts, but I would sooner swallow my tongue than moderate that sub-forum.

I agree completely. I've always been in favor of that, but...

I think Dutch Baka was moderating it for a while, but I think he's taking an extended break, perhaps?

I know I used to dare to go in there and try to clean up those monstrous signatures, but was always blatant disregard to my efforts and requests.

Maybe they can somehow write a script such that if there isn't at least one real word in your response, you can't post to the thread.

Asides from cutting out the comments of (and I'm not making this up) things like

...it would encourage people to write real sentences instead of whatever weird shorthand for illiteracy that they currently employ.

Not surprisingly, other than you I didn't see a single user in there that I recognize from anywhere else on JREF.

I guess you can say they make the numbers look good which brings in the ads which brings in the money. There are many days , if it were not for J-Rock posts there would be no posts it seems.Maybe the "new changes" in the running of JREF will allow it to return to the golden age of old and bring back some ol timers who left in disgust. Be real interesting to see what 2007 brings to our Forum.

I never thought about what Frank had mentioned, the marketing aspect of it... but then again, I never thought that click-through revenue worked. Maybe they changed how that operates... Page hits must count for something, and those kids have thousands of posts...

I guess it's as RockLee said... sort of like sifting through a mountain of garbage in order to pick out a quarter that was dropped in there. Just not worth the effort.

It's just that I am genuinely interested (though not quite fanatical) about Japanese music, even Japanese pop music... Perhaps more in a way that tries to understand how it opperates, on the psyche of youth, and otherwise...

I'm interested in Enka, something I've heard you've quite the collection of, and I'm interested in bands that have contributed to international music appreciation, like Yellow Magic Orchestra, etcetera, and ones who've become famous (okay... known, at least) outside of Japan, even though they sometimes remained unknown in Japan, such as bands like Guitar Wolf, Spoozys, & The Plastics.

I'm one of those foolish people who tries to piece together the evolution of trends in music, or otherwise to understand what's going on in the minds of the Japanese...

...in short, I'd love to discuss these things with people, but the signal to noise ratio, and the readerbase of that forum sort of makes this futile.

There's no solution to it, hell their obsessive behaviour may even contribute to greater ad revenue than casual users... the above is just a rant.

ps. Maybe we could have a "Music Discussion" subforum, with strict rules on it being a place for discussion, history, etcetera... No picture spamming, no "Guuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu AYAAAAAAAAA KAWAIIIIIIIIIIIIII" responses, no erotic free-verse fanfiction about your Gazette themed Super Dolfie, etc...?
