HI.
My name is Starr, and my husband is in the US navy and we're moving to Sasebo, Japan. I have been having a hard time, due to the language barrier, finding a culinary or pastry school. Is there anyone who is Japanese, speaks English, or lives in Japan who can help me? PLEASE... I have been questioning moving over there because I really want a degree or certificate in culinary arts, and I didn't know if anyone teaches culinary school in English. HELP.

I've found this program that you might be interested in. I'm not sure if they have any courses in Sasebo, and I don't think they offer a degree, but it seems like a good experience if you are interested in Japanese cooking.

Another thing you can do is contact the culinary schools that you are considering to enrol in, where you live, and ask them if they have a branch in Japan.
There is a school in Osaka called "Tsuji Professional Culinary Institute", which is quite huge and has students from all over the world. Unfortunately, I don't have the contact information.

Good luck. I love cooking, too. 🙂

Ummmm, Misa, do you have any tips for an amateur cook who is dying to master (or at least advance) in Japanese cooking?

Endsight61,
I'm so glad to hear that you're interested in cooking!

Japanese cooking is quite simple once you get to know the ingredients. Nothing like French cooking.
I've posted some recipes before; some are not strictly traditional Japanese dishes, but they still offer images of Japanese food, and all are easy to make. If you have any questions, feel free to send a PM anytime.

Easy recipes for everybody.
