Cost of Visit to Tokyo

Just a guestimate... How much would it cost to visit tokyo for two weeks, or even a month. It'd be a few friends, and we really wouldn't mind living in some half bad place...

All things incorporated, air travel, leisure spending, food, and housing... What do you think it'd cost for 2 weeks, and a month..

As I posted elsewhere:
I found that staying in a Ryokan was cheaper than a hotel (about $47.00 U.S.) back in 2001. I slept on a futon and was comfortable enough. I didn't miss having a Western-style bed.

You can find reasonable food prices at fast food places and elsewhere.

The only pricey items were the airfare ($550 through Priceline. com) and the JR Railpass (roughly $250). I went for a week and took $1,500.00 with me and came home with just under half that (and I didn't penny-pinch either).

Are you and your friends going to share in the expenses?

Generally, it is better to over-estimate your budget than to under-estimate. You don't want to run out of cash before your two weeks are over. What you want to do is find out how much it will cost for your lodging. If it is around $60 U.S., just multiply that by the number of nights you will be staying.

Not knowing what your eating habits are, you may want to figure how much you plan to spend per day on meals. You may want to figure $20/day, give or take.

How much do you plan to spend on entertainment or souvenirs? You may want to add some for daily transportation (especially if you plan to use the city trains, subways, taxis or buses).

If I were going for two weeks on my own (not on a tour), I would try to have at least $3,000 on me. You may not need it all, but it is good to have it if needed.
 
For 4 of us the rrom was about 500 each 500 air fare and 250-280 rail pass and I am taking baout 2k with me.

For $2,000, you should be okay for two weeks. You may have to be a little frugal with the spending.

But for a month, I think you may need much more.

Anyway you think 2k for 2 weeks is not enough? I am taking closer to 2300 but wow is it really that expensive? I hope not.
 
That's plenty if you're staying in Tokyo or if you go elsewhere you've already got the train tickets taken care of. Of course, if you like games or anime and go to Akihabara you could blow that in a couple of days. :)

You're taking that much in cash ? 😲 I have trouble going through 200.00 in a week, but that's just me and when I'm on my own for meals I tend to head for the nearest conbini or skip it altogether if that means eating on the street....:p

$2,000 for two weeks should be okay. But it all depends upon your living costs and spending habits. $2,000 would not be enough for a month, since you mentioned the possibility of staying a month.

No no I am not staying for a month that was th thread starter. I am only staying for 2 weeks more like 11 days. But we are gonna try to share most of the costs between the four of us and the we buy what we want later.

I visited Japan three times. It's really expensive.
If I were you, I would rather visit South East Asia or China instead of Japan.
There are more beautiful things in Thailand or China than japan.
 
I seriously doubt that's going to have any impact on the original poster.

Okay. For 11 days, two grand ought to be enough. But you may want to bring more for any unforseen emergencies. I would also recommend travel insurance. One of our tour members had to be hospitalized during the trip and the insurance came in handy.
