confusion with te form in sentence

i found this sentence in a manga.

The scenario is that a girl is trying to get someone to drink some poison by asking him politely if he could drink it. another person watching makes the following statement.

"sore de watashite nomu baka wa sasuga ni..."

What I'm confused about is the phrase "sore de watashite nomu" which is modifying "baka". I think the phrase "sore de watashite nomu" translates to "gives it to him (like that) and drinks it". Then the entire phrase "sore de watashite nomu baka" means "the idiot who gives it to him and drinks it" which doesn't make sense since the girl is giving the poison to him and the guy is the one who is supposed to drink it.

It seems like the two verbs connected by the te form refer to two different subjects. I am confused on how I am supposed to interpret the sentence. Is "sore de watashite nomu" modifying "baka", or is it "sore de watashite" (refering to the girl) and then "nomu baka" (refering to the guy) where there is a change in subject within the sentence?

Hnnn... is that それで渡して飲む馬鹿はさすがに then in the original?
It would be a lot easier to understand if you typed in actual Japanese rather than romaji, and there are free input methods for all the major operating systems.

Certainly, if the girl handing poison to the guy said 'それで渡して飲む馬鹿だね' it would roughly mean 'You're an idiot for drinking what I handed you' with just such a change in subject. It is a little sketchier for a third person to say a similar line, but I think it could happen if the context is obvious enough to resolve all the unstated actors for the verbs.

yes the original sentence is as you have typed out.

when I was reading through that part, the context was clear enough that I could understand what was going on. but when I came back and read that sentence more closely, I started to get confused about its grammar.

I was under the impression that whenever there is a change in subject, the new subject would be introduced using が. but since the new subject (the boy) wasn't explicitly introduced I originally thought that there was no change in subject going on and instead thought the entire phrase それで渡して飲む was modifying ばか, which didn't seem to make sense.

Most of the time when I encounter a "te" form clause both verbs refer to the same subject. However, in それで渡して飲む, each verb refers to a different subject and furthermore, there was no mention of a subject change. is this kind of construction common in writing and speech? that is, we are given two verbs connected by "te" and we are supposed to infer by context that each verb refers to a different subject even though no subject change is explicitly mentioned.

if this kind of thing is common, would it be possible to give me 1 or 2 more examples using this construction?

It's not just 渡して飲む, but 渡して（、）飲む馬鹿は…. The subject of 渡して is obvious from the context, and the subject of 飲む (= 馬鹿) is stated . それで渡されて飲む馬鹿は might be easier to understand, but それで渡して focuses more on the doer (= the girl) comparing to 渡されて飲む.

Here's the examples. The subjects of 渡す and 飲む are different in both sentences.

薬は飲む時だけ渡して、飲むのを確認すれば転売は防げる。
あったかいカフェオレを渡して、飲むところを観察したい。


いない is omitted at the end of the sentence.
