I basically agree that he needs to learn to take a little better what he dishes out so well....

I do the "take" of "give and take" equally as well as I do the "give", provided I am on equal footing. Clearly, this was not the case in my disagreement with RockLee as he held both the power and the inclination to ban me for the content of my opinion, and not for the wording of it, as I will elaborate on farther down in this post.

I suppose that blotted from your memory the identity of the one person (and a devout Atheist, at that) who went out of his way to dig up for you information on the Catholic church in Japan and ease your concerns about being able to continue actively in your faith should you ever come to live in Japan.

I am opposed to lethal injection as a means of capital punishment.

Mike had a chance to argue his point with as much nuance and depth as he thought appropriate....

In the face of an immediate deletion, a threatened ban, and an irrational and baseless ad hominem attack from a moderator? Not likely.

It was one of those strange cases where I agreed with someone I generally don't like and think is an overblown hothead who got his forum status without much merit, and disagreed with the others.

You would prefer that we all stick our fingers in the wind and not disagree with each other? Maybe you like pablum, but I gave it up after teething.

Also, Mike was very helpful to newbies when they had a question. He always posted a link or offered some advice to those seriously looking for answers.

I am unspeakably glad that someone actually noticed that aspect of my participation here. To hear some tell it, all I ever do is look a place to sh*t and a stick to stir it with.

In the interest of fair play, I demand that you receive an infraction for posting that.

My infraction was ostensibly for "inappropriate language". If it was inappropriate language when I posted it, then it is inappropriate language when you repost it, as you have done at least twice to my knowledge.
Since you think it alright to repost it, then quite obviously it was not "inappropriate language" but "inappropriate opinion" which led to the infraction (which management has since removed).

In the realm of public debate, nothing arouses my scorn faster than unprincipled duplicitousness, especially on the part of those placed in positions of authority. A position from which, in my opinion, you ought to be removed.

I pride myself on the wording of my posts being precise, concise, and succinct. Given the same situation over again, I would make exactly the same post.

I said nothing about a bullet to the brain. Traditionally firing squads aim at the heart.

Personally I think it comes mostly from Rocklee's very intense objection to the war in Iraq which this guy was also hoping to evade. If Mike had said the person responsible for the invasion or some nameless terrorist for keeping us in it should be shot I doubt very much it would have gotten this far.

Absolutely it stemmed from his hatred of Bush and his intense objection to the war in Iraq....neither of which had any bearing whatsoever on my opinion, which would be precisely the same no matter what person or party is in power and no matter the location, nature, or popular support of the conflict.

I suspect that had I said Bush ought to be stood against a wall and shot RockLee would have leapt in and applauded me.

Everybody here seems to unquestioningly accept this mistaken bit of information as gospel for some reason. Actually, the typical protocol is for only one of the bullets to be a blank, so that each of the shooters can console himself with the thought that perhaps his shot didn't actually do anything.

Relying on a single projectile to effectively do the job in a reasonably swift, sure, and humane manner flies in the face of logic, which makes it all that much harder to believe how everyone here seems to so readily swallow this chestnut.

While I will forever find fault with your actions and justications for this, I am glad that you never apologized for them. That would have caused me to have a total lack of respect for you. I admire anyone who sticks to their guns. I just don't like when I find that there is a gunfight going on and I am restricted to the use of a knife.

My guess would be so the family can have an open casket funeral.

Rifles (and in the old days, muskets) pack enough power to do more than make a neat in-and-out hole in a head. I believe the principles of hydraulic pressure or some such conspire to frequently result in heads exploding or at least the backs of heads being blown off. Not that half a dozen or so rounds would leave much of a face for a mother to shed tears on either, for that matter.

I'm tempted to speculate that the larger size of the target and the relative inaccuracy of smoothbore muskets back in the olden days may have also played a role in the choice, but given the number of shooters and the short range involved, I'm more persuaded by the open casket idea.

I disagreed with your opinion because I am against capital punishment but I didn't see why you should be penalized for saying it. ☝ Sure, people are gonna disagree with you, but such is life, and then a discussion follows, which is what a forum is for, isn't it? If you'd gotten rude or abusive about your opinion further down the line, then would be the time for infraction. People should have a chance to defend their opinion in a normal discussion, it's not as if you were just posting spam.

Incidentally, I think that miki78 has a very mature attitude... I noticed your exchange in one thread and I did feel on that occasion your remark to her was really rude, basically using some issue with the most tenuous connection to the subject of her thread and inflating it in order to poke fun at her for no apparent reason. But I'll shut up now cos that's not relevant here.

This whole incident reminds me of past questionable actions by the mods/admin here, but I have to say that each time some little controversy like this happens I find myself caring a little less. Basically I have come to the conclusion that Jref is just the playground for a few priviledged, and the rest of us...well, just aren't so priviledged.

It was my intention to just lurk around until our young friend from Huntsville posted a picture of her 窶督ｺ tattoo. Leaving before seeing that would be like walking out of a movie 5 minutes before the end or reading a mystery novel down to the next to last page and throwing it away.

Some of the things being said about me couldn't be left without comment, though. What triggered my reply was a desire to have Elizabeth point out for me some of the many, many places I have called people "stupid" or "idiot". They must be numerous since I am "reknowned" for doing that...yet have no recollection of having done it.

This whole incident reminds me of past questionable actions by the mods/admin here, but I have to say that each time some little controversy like this happens I find myself caring a little less.

I also care less about riding the Belgian yo-yo each time. I may get back up to my old posting pace and style....but don't count on it.

As a student of English language writing styles, I find his laconic and wry humor most interesting of the posters here, although I must add also that there are a few more whose styles I like and would love to imitate. I also see a basic warmth in what he writes, however terse and cold it may appear at first glance.

This must come from falling in love with George Bernard Shaw and Groucho Marx back in high school!
