Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has done this or knows anything about it? I am looking at buying a new car overseas and bringing it to Japan. I've investigated the shipping and compliance, also the 5% registration tax. It seems that there are no age restrictions? The USA and Australia only allow vehicles over a certain age...this doesn't seem to be the case in Japan?
Just curious is anyone has had experience. Cheers!

Contact Jav on the forum at Gaijinriders for advice and into on this. He is in that line of work.

To be honest it may be cheaper to buy here what with the roro costs and added insurances for an import and if the steering is the opposite side.

Thanks for the reply! I've already done the math and it is well worth it.

Yep! I might be up for a total of 25k or so, which still makes it more than worthwhile. Cheers!

$25,000 AUD includes the purchase of the vehicle and transporting it to Japan and getting it registered and road-worthy? Might I ask what car you're looking to buy?

Nope, that's just the tax, transport, shaken.

Possibly an Aston Marrin V12 Vantage S. The price difference is more like 50-75k between the US and Japan, so it's still very much worth it to me. Cheers!
