Ahh.. Ayumi.

What to say.

I <3 her.

And she's so incredibly beautiful.

I wish I was half as pretty as her.

And "Startin' " is my favorite song of hers. <3333

Uh... I never got around to listening to any Ayumi songs but I went and downloaded a few after seeing this thread.

I also downloaded a few Utada songs since most sites that mentioned Ayumi compared her to Utada. =P

Me no big pop fan, but Utada has the better, more natural-sounding voice to me. Not to mention, she also has better English pronounciation than Ayumi. I could actually understand crystal clear the lines all the English lines in "First Love" which I never almost never hear in Japanese songs. There're always a few words that seem... questionable, but Utada's English is amongst the best I've heard. Other than her, I guess Rei Fu has great English pronounciation but she goes to England to study university part-time =P

Well... Ayumi is very beautiful, I agree with that, but her voice is freakin' out horrible!! >.< I saw some of her videos and I have a couple of songs. She is just like a Japanese Britney Spears! It's not like I hate her totaly, I like some songs, but they all are DJ mixes from her songs... My fav is "M". Didn't listen to the orriginal and don't even want to do that...
But as a person... She's pretty... What do you need more?

Haha, you can't compare their pronounciation to Rei Fu, that's unfair, lol!

Yeah, I think Utada has the better voice. I could never really get into Ayumi's songs. There's one, I can't think of the name of right now, that I like, but besides that everything is just so-so. She is pretty, though ^^

and to compare her to Britney, well, I think ANYONE has a better voice than Britney ... (and yet I own 2 Britney albums, lol)

Really? (please don't kill me too badly) But at times I think she's no better than Britney. Sure, Ayumi has a more distinctive STYLE and can be very creative with her arrangements but I can't really say her voice sounds better.

Rei Fu makes me wonder if her English is better than her Japanese. Her songs are all relaxed the Japanese lyrics are very easy to sing along to. Does anybody know? How long has she been overseas?

first of all who needs fame it only leads to your end and she is pretty and she watches anime and speaks english what more doyou need I love every song of hers my favorite is Naturally and the remix too and yeah I love her Rainbow album

she has talent in everything and that's what I think...

she is beautiful, sexy, and has a good voice. I love her hair color I want to just meet her once in Japan but I am in united states but I am learning Japanese I am learning days months, time, introductions, how to ask for an item, and yeah and to write hiragana, yeah...

Ima Nan-Ji Desu Ka.:p

And that's pretty much what Britney Spears is like too.

Nothing against Britney either. She obviously has to have something since she's so popular. If you go for the looks of a singer then fine. That's why we have so many girls with eating disorders.

If you're going to compare a Japanese artist to Britney Spears, use Koda Kumi. In fact, I'm surprised they aren't best friends, they'll so similar. Both act slutty and sell sex. That isn't Ayumi.

I really like Hamasaki Ayumi. I don't think she's got the best voice, but her songs are great. She seems to put a lot of effort into her career.

And, um, if you people haven't already noticed, the reason there are so many anorexic girls is not because of an artists 'looks'. From the beginning of time, people have always admired and been jealous, etc. of people who are goodlooking. Beauty was important even thousands of years ago. Girls have always felt pressured to be 'beautiful'. Some people act like it's something unique to our century. Hahah, that really makes me laugh.

I know it isn't unique to our century but media has significantly increased the statistics if you havent' noticed. Jealously HAS already been there since cavemen time but before mass media started pumping photos of stick figured celebrities in our faces, the cases weren't that bad. Anorexia in Japan is amongst the highest too.

It's actually a fierce cycle. The artists have a critiera to fullfil: to be beautiful people. And we the audience see beauty as skinny, pale, whatever. They in turn have to fit that role while to follow these glittering people and try to be more like them- what we want to be like.

Once in a while someone daring will come along and pull something new and start a new trend to this cycle. Fashion is changing and will always continue to change, but it'll be a long time before the celery-stick figure moves onto something more healthy.

Human nature and the human psyche is really much more complicated than:
From the beginning of time, people have always admired and been jealous, etc. of people who are goodlooking.

:p

Good for you for liking her.

I don't think she's got the best voice either.

I wouldn't know about her career devotion since I'm not a fan of hers.

I never said I didn't like her, I was merely comparing her to other singers I know. I'm not comparing her to Koda Kumi because I don't know who the heck she is. Like I said, I'm not into pop. I hate it when people made judgements after only hearing one side of the story so until I'm bored enough to download one of Koda's songs, I'll refrain from commenting on her.

I don't see what's wrong with selling sex. It's what's expected in the American music industry now. You HAVE to sell sex if you want to sell songs. In a sense such "slutty" singers are also devoted to their career since I'm sure keeping up a killer figure and sex image isn't any easier than maintaining an elegant and sweet image.

It's not so much Britney Spears the person I hate but the fact that the American music industry is manufacturing singers like her that I hate. Selected for their looks, tested for vocal potential, trained for a year to sing and dance... BANG! You've got another popstar on the market sweeping in kiddie fans.

Some people so easily take things at surface value it's thoroughly amusing. : D

*sigh* just ignore what I wrote...you caught me on a bad day. (erm, just look at the Dir en grey thread. o_O)

Of course the human psyche is more complicated than that. I just didn't feel like writing a whole long essay to someone I don't even know. And you needn't not have written such a long post; as if no one knew that already.

I know all about anorexia in Japan. I walk past it every day.

And if you don't like Hamasaki Ayumi, don't post in this particular thread.

Ayumi is good, when I first heard her voice it used to annoy me SO much, but now its somewhat bareable. As far as the sex appeal goes, yea lately she has been getting a bit sexier of an image, but its really not that bad when compared to Koda Kumi (WHO I LOVE BTW 😊). If you think Ayumi is to "SEXY" than you will probally think Koda is a downright "SKANK".

But as they say sex=$$$ and true people who hate against them and that image probally bring up artists Like Utada, Rie Fu, and many other artists who dont really use alot of sex appeal who have just as good sales using talent alone. But I personally don't mind the image.

Just got her album last week, so I finaly got the time to listen to mroe of her songs! some I like, some I don't like..

But in they end, Utada will always be my number one haha

Lmao, you and your Utada love! You just had to find a way to mention her didn't you? (I'm just kidding with ya :giggle: )

Her voice can be annoying at times, and at others she has a really nice voice. I like her rocky songs, as they actually do sound quite 'rock' lol. The Silent Night video was really good with Gackt. :-)

edit: Would this not be under female artists? :?

That's what I was thinking too, but because it includes a poll it is placed with the Chit chat section! We are still working on merging everything, so it might be posible that this thread in the future will come be in the Female section...
