Hi guys. From my understanding, both of the following sentences mean something similar to "What is your favourite food?":

どんな食べ物が一番好きですか。

食べ物の中で、なにが一番好きですか。

Between these two phrases, are there any differences in meaning (or differences in their usage)? Thanks as always.

Well, the first one asks what kind of food you like best and the second one and what food you like best. They are different, but it isn't unlikely that they would be answered the same way.

The meaning is different, as Mike-san wrote, so the answer of the former question is usually a relatively wide category of foods such like seafood or noodles, and the latter is more specific such like sushi or udon.
