I'm a $ucker for hot, hot, hot basslines. (Yes, that reads 'basslines', not 'bassists', XD.)

So I thought I'd make a thread for all great Japanese bassists, and songs with fantastic basslines in them! It can be both aural and pictorial - for me, it's about the music, but I don't wanna be stuck up, elitist and intellectual (huh! fat chance! XD), so, if you can't or don't want to upload songs, feel free to post pics of your favourite bassists here!

Even if you don't normally listen to SID, and passed over this one in the SID thread, if you love bass you must have it! This bassline is one of those that is possibly quite easy to actually play, but was pure genius to devise. It turns your insides to liquid...

Practically all Scissor songs have cool basslines, so I was spoilt for choice, but chose this one in the end. As you probably know, their ex-bassist Tsunehito (below) has now joined D, so we can look forward to great things I think!

Thoroughly a 'pop' song, with its catchy 'yeah-yeah-yeah' chorus. But I have yet to hear a UK pop song with such a good bassline! Turn up the bass, or put your headphones on, and really listen, and you'll hear what I mean.

I agree with Akasen and Toshiya they are such great bassists. I almost have all of cage down, there's just this one part I have a hard time with. I think Zero used to have better bass lines in despa's older stuff. The newer stuff, he doesn't really do anything special in my oppinion, but it still goes just fine with the music. D'espairsay is my favorite band, which is funny because as far as the bass goes I think it lacks compared to the other jrock I listen to. I haven't heard some of the other bassists you mentioned, so when I get home from work I will take a listen. Maybe if I was a japanese man you'd have me listed here haha j/k

The basist of the Black Horn is very good as well. ^_^ I love to listen to new or amateur bands basslines, Kagerou come to mind. I love the thread name!

Hehe, I totally forgot to say in my OP that I know we have at least 2 bassists on the forum - you and PK - so this could also be a place for more technical discussion. ^^ And people can post their own stuff, too, if they want!

I don't play bass, but the bass solo from Cage played on the guitar makes a nice warm-up exercise!

I agree with you about D'espa - but I couldn't resist that song, the intro is just... *is wordless*

The song Paradox by Ribbon is definitely a gem basswise.

EDIT: (Yokan posting at the same time!) Ah, The Back Horn - I like them. I'll have to search out more songs with good basslines when I have a bit of time!

No thread started by me would be complete without a picture of my favourite bassist! Kozi started off to play the bass when he was at school, he started a band with his friend and they thought it was best if they played different instruments. So his friend played guitar and he chose bass. He still plays the bass now, in fact, with a band, so he is relevant to this thread!

As far as songs go, I'm unsure of which solo song to upload yet... and I don't have any songs at all by Death Attack Chainsaw.

I think the words you're looking for are instant orgasm! I know this is off-topic from bass, but Karyu has a mighty fine guitar solo in that song as well. It's funny, Bre and I were just discussing D'espairsRay basslines yesterday. Zero's older stuff was more creative and complex.

I just had to post... has anyone listened to the live bass solo by HammerFall, on their 'Glory to the Live' album? It's awesome! They really have cool bass... and on Ravenlord, too.

Oh, and if you absolutely must listen to nothing but Japanese music (and to keep it relevant to the forum! XDD)................... LISTEN TO NUKEGARA if you love bass (by MUCC, that is)...
