A way to greet, a lightning quick question.

Hello, Forum.

I have experienced people greeting with a solitary "こん". No にちは/ ばんは added after it - just "こん". Is this a common greeting variation?

Was this an online thing? (in chat or something). You do see things that are meant to be combinations of different greetings (e.g. こんにちは・こんばんは ). Don't use them more generally (but if that's what everyone uses in that chat room, go with it).
