What does 気を使うmean? None of the online dictionaries seem to have it.

in romaji it would be..

ki o tsukau which should mean something like manipulated spirit..

"Ki o tsukau" is an idiom that means "to attend to" or "to take into consideration". It is not meant to be translated literally, because it's an idiom.

Japanese has lots of idioms and sayings with 気 in them.

"Ki o tsukau".. It is a term I have not yet fully grasped..

Doinkies' explanation is absolutely perfect though. Anyways, I heard it most often in the sentence:「そんなに気を使わなくてもいいのに！」 which means something like: "Aww.. You shouldn't have!" (in a positive sense, you know when receiving presents and such).

The meaning is as doinkies and leon explained, to be attentive (to please someone confortable, pleased, etc.)

Japanese has lots of idioms and sayings with 窶ｹC in them.

Btw, you may have been unable to find the word because it's very often written as 気を遣う.

Perhaps I can take advantage of y'all's generosity with your knowledge once more: has anyone ever come across this word: 宅録 ?

Something to do with musical recording I think, but maybe a 専門用語 because I can't seem to find its meaning anywhere either.

P.S. Here's some additional context: 最近、英語で歌ったものを録音してみたんですがひどか った。そういえば今、宅録にこってるんですよ。家での レーコディングですね。よかったら英語のネイティブの歌を 録音してみたいですけど。

宅録 means "(music) recording at home."

Because of advances in recording technology, a lot of people record their music at home. My son is also a 宅録家 (takurokuka).

But not 二日市 : Futsukaichi
(Both names of places in Kyushu )
