黄ばみ

According to the IME, I should read this きばみ, but it's not in the dictionary, so I'm a little confused. Is this a new word or something? It seems that it isn't a word the manufacurers of this mouthwash expect consumers to know, since they put 着色汚れ after it in parentheses in two different places.

In my experience, if it's in paranthesis on native products, and it isn't in the dictionary, it's not too common of a word to the point where most people won't understand it anyway, or, it's a word used specifically in a given subject (much like jargon (sp?)).

黄ばみ is quite a common word used in daily life.
It is nominalized form of the verb 黄ばむ, which you'll find in dictionaries.
黄ばむ means to get yellow or yellowish.
洗濯物の黄ばみ is one of the first things that pops in my mind when I hear the word 黄ばみ.

If you find the words on the label of mouthwash, I guess it refers to 歯の黄ばみ which is teeth get yellowish from drinking coffee, tea, and smoking.

Ah, thank you undrentide! It didn't occur to me that it could have come from a verb. Although I find it a bit strange that the noun version isn't in the dictionary, considering the vast amounts of verbs-turned-nouns that are. Anyway, thanks again for clearing that up!

Which dictionary did you use? I copied that in the Yahoo! jisho and it gave me the verb form.

If you use rikaichan, the reading kibami is in there as well. I don't know if you have tried it though, but if not it would be worth a try.

I used 大辞林 and EXCEED和英辞典. They usually cover pretty much everything (including words my IME doesn't), so I just didn't bother checking anywhere else.
