I don't use the old PSTN phone here in Japan, only the vodafone keitai. However I sometimes called a person and then a machine answered me. Rusuban something something. I couldn't get what it's trying to say coz it was fast and complicated. Can someone enlighten? I would want to dedicate this thread on any questions about 窶愿コ窶怒ナ津ェ spoken in telephone conversation, not just the usual moshi moshi for sure.

Going off of memory, the default J-Phone messages were:
Standard "not here" message:
こちらは「Phone Number」です。只今留守にしています。ぴーという音の後に名前、電話番号とメッセージを残して下さい。終りましたらシャープを押して下さい。

Number out of service:
こちらはJ-phoneです。おかけになった電話番号は現在使われておりません。

Full messages:
[Phone number]はメッセージがいっぱいになっております。

Again, this is all from memory, but should help.

Thanks gaijinpunch, there is some garbaged kana I couldn't pronounced on your post. naoshitekudasai.... and if it doesn't rack much of your brains, keep it coming. I am learning.

Hehe... well, I remember not knowing a lot of the words when I first moved there. I guess that's part of the fun. If your friends are dodgy like mine were, you'll get the the out-of-service message down pat in a few months. :D
