1. These are instructions for a reading comprehension exercise:

重要な文だと思うところをチェックしてください。
・その人がどんな人か簡単にまとめられている文。
・その人がほかの人とどのように違うか、同じかまとめ られている文。

My attempt at translation:

"Please check what you think are important sentences.
・A sentence / sentences that summarise(s) in simple terms what kind of person this is.
・A sentence /sentences that summarise(s) the differences and similarities between this person and the others."

This doesn't make much sense to me. Is "check" is being used in the sense "make a mark against"? I don't understand how the first instruction relates to the two bullet points. Is the student supposed to write the summary sentences described in the bullet points? Or are the bullet points describing which sentences in the text are important?


2. This is talking about young children's attempts to draw their parents:

でも、特徴をしっかり表現しているという点ではすばら しいと言えます。

My translation: "But one could say that as far as reliably depicting (their parents') characteristics is concerned, (the pictures) are splendid."

I not certain, especially, about という点. I tried to translate this as "as far as ... is concerned". Is this reasonable?


3. そんな鼻やあごの形をした人なんて実際にはいないのに 、それを見てだれの顔か分かるところがおもしろいです 。

My translation: "Although in reality there is no one with a nose and jaw that shape, it's interesting how when one sees (the portrait) one knows whose face it is."

What does ところ mean here? Does it just mean "the fact of", a bit like こと, or is there some additional nuance?


4. 次に、このタイプのプロの絵は子どものそれと違って、 いろいろと「味付け」がされている点です。

My translation: "Next, this type of of professionally drawn pictures differ from children's pictures, in the sense that they (the professionally drawn pictures) have various different 'flavours'."

Is this OK? Especially, I am not exactly sure of the meaning of 点 here.

Yeah, I think "to make a mark against" is a good interpretation for チェックする. It can be used not only for making actual/concrete marks but also for making marks against the sentences in mind depending on the context.

The latter, "the bullet points are describing which sentences in the text are important". They are the examples the readers should "check".

Yes. That's a good translation, too. Although the nuance of "as far as" is from は.

3)
Right. It's similar to （という）こと/（という）の. ところ has a nuance of "point". (So, it's interchangeable to という点 in the example sentence above.)

4)
That sentence is one of the examples of the differences between professional's pictures and children's ones, right? That means "the second difference(different point) is..."

Yes, previously it's been said that professionals have a high(er) level of skill, so this is a second point, as you say.
