1. (Talking about the follow-up to a test which showed that Brown has high blood pressure.)

ブラウン： で、こういう時は、どういう病院に行った らいいのかなぁと思って・・・。
足立： そうですね～。ま、血圧ぐらいだったら、その 辺の小さいとこでも大丈夫だと思いますけど。
ブラウン： あ、じゃ、会社の裏の、山田医院でもいい かな～。
足立： あ～、でも、なんか他にも検査することがある かもしれないから、やっぱり大きい総合病院とかに行っ た方がいいんじゃないですか。

My translation:

Brown: Well, at that time I thought it would be a good idea to go to the hospital, one way or another...
Adachi: Right. Well, if it's only high blood pressure, I think the little place nearby would be OK too.
Brown: Ah, the Yamada Clinic behind our office might be OK?

a) In the first line, does どういう signify that a visit to the hospital might be troublesome, as I tried to translate as "one way or another"?

b) Does その辺の小さいとこ refer to 山田医院?

d) I'm not 100% confident about なんか他にも検査することがある. Is my translation correct?

e) Does やっぱり have a sense like "after all", as I translated?


2. 足立： 隣の駅の、駅を出てすぐのところにもあるでし ょ、え～と、千代田総合病院とかいったかな、あそこだ ったら近いし・・・。
ブラウン： あ、そういえば、そんな病院ありましたね 。

My translation:

Adachi: "There's also a place next to the station, right there when you exit the station, er, I think it's called 千代田 General Hospital or something ... that would be close, too."
Brown: Ah, now you mention it, there is a hospital there (lit. is such a hospital), isn't there.

a) Is とかいった = といった（と言った） with か inserted to express a degree of uncertainty?

b) Why is ありました past tense?


3. The topic is Brown's mislaid insurance card. Brown says:

いや～、家にあるとは思うんですけどね～。

Does this mean "I wonder if it's somewhere at home"? I do not really understand the purpose of とは in this sentence.

It's the perfect tense. Just as you say ここにありました when you've found something you're looking for, he has found the hospital in his memory. ありますね also can be used here, though.

Needless to say, but そうですね～in the second line means "well".

2) b)
From the context. If 足立 said 昔、駅を出てすぐのところに千代田総合病院ってあったでしょ。 in another context, Brown's answer そういえば、そんな病院ありましたね。 is the past tense.

3)
～と思う.

My apologies, I meant to ask the question "How can you tell this?" about 1b, not 2b.

3. Yes, of course. However, I am now having difficulties with the grammar of 思うがない in your あるとは思うがないかもしれない, as well as the overall meaning, which to me looks like "Maybe I don't think it's there (= at home)", but that hardly makes sense in the context. Can you help some more with this?

その辺 refers to an area, i.e, an uncertain one. If it refers to a certain one, another way (e.g. あの/あそこの小さいとこ) is used.

保険証は家にあるとは思うが、家にもないかもしれない。
