Hi,
1.
橋田: 當作先生の奥さんって、すっごく素敵な方なん ですって~?
當作: いや、そんなことないですよ。ほんとに愚妻で もう料理は下手だし。もう・・・。
橋田: へ~、そうですか?片岡先生も上手だっておっ しゃってましたよ。
My translation:
橋田: 當作先生, your wife is a really great person, isn't she?
當作: That's not true. In fact her cooking is terrible.
橋田: Really? 片岡先生 said it (= her cooking) was good.
As well, as any other mistakes:
a) In the first line I just added "isn't she" to make a question, but I don't know if the Japanese means that, and I am not sure what って~?at the end implies.
b) In the second line, what is the function of でもう and もう・・・?
c) In the last line, what is the purpose of も? (No one else has said that her cooking is good, so I figure it can't mean "also".)
2. また、日本語の表現との間に何か違いがありますか。
I understand this is asking something about differences between Japanese expressions and expressions in the student's own language, but I can't figure out the grammar around との間に.
3. 意外だったのは、全体的には、打ち消し型の返答が別に 少ないのである。
My translation: "Surprisingly, overall, the denying types of reply [= replies modestly denying a compliment] were particularly infrequent."
Does 全体的には mean "overall" here, in reference to the full body of survey results?
4. もちろん、ほめ方、返答の仕方は性別、年齢によっても ちがってくる。だから、人間関係や何をほめられてるか にもよって、応え方が変わってくるわけだ。
My translation: "Of course, the method of giving and accepting praise also varies depending on sex and age. This means that the method of responding to praise also varies depending on the relationship of the people involved and the thing for which one is being praised."
a) My problem here is with だから...わけだ. I tried to translate this as "This means that..." but it doesn't make sense. There is no reason that I can see why the second statement follows as a consequence of the first. So, what does だから...わけだ imply?
d) Does 仕方 have any etymological connection with する?
