Im stuck at this pretty simple sentence since I don't understand the meaning and the grammatical function of なんです in the following sentence:

あした行く予定なんです。
We are planning to go (there) tomorrow.

Wouldn't it be the same as あした行く予定です? What is the function of なん? Thanks for your help)))

な is the attributive form of the copula だ, and ん is called explanatory の/ん.
