そんなところ＆出ないだろう

前回のテストでも、そんなところは出ないだろうと思っ ていたらほんとにそこが出たので驚いた。
zenkai no testo de mo,sonna tokoro ha denai darou to omotteitara honto ni soko ga deta no de odoroita
Bit stuck with this.

It looks like "last time in the test also, that situation I had been thinking I could not come out, because really I did, I was surprised"

The part about 出ない ー Is this meaning to go in and take a test?

Also the sonna tokoro そんなところ part - is that "in that situation" / soon baai?

I believe the person is expressing incredulity over something that was included on the test.

You're making an error in assuming that what 出た is the speaker. It is conceivable that the speaker would be surprised at himself unexpectedly appearing somewhere, but a bit Twilight Zonish. What 出た must be something else, and the only logical alternatives are a particular topic or question the speaker didn't expect to appear....a situation that probably everyone has experienced at some point.

what about the そんなところ - does that just mean "in such a situation"

It refers to "a particular topic or question" as Mike-san pointed out.

そんなところは出ない shows that the subject of 出ない is そんなところ. If it's "I could not come out", i.e., if そんなところ is the object of 出ない, the clause should be そんなところには出ない.

そんなところ refers to "it" in those translations, not the test itself.;-)
