Hi,


1. 「そうでござんしょうとも！」

What is ござんしょう? Couldn't be ございましょう, I suppose? I'm not even sure what that would mean though... (EDIT: though I guess it could be like そうでしょう?)


2. 「こいつはあまり難しくはないはずだ。なにしろ河童のあとだしね。」

Is あとだし = あと + だ (copula) + し (phrase-end particle)?

「気にしたりしてはいないだろうね？」
「いいえ」

The person replying means to say that he is not worried, so why doesn't he answer はい? I thought in Japanese we have to answer negative questions like "Aren't you worried?" the other way around to English, no?


4. 今登録されれば、１年間無料です。

Is されれば an honorific form?

You are correct. ござんしょう is a dialectal form of ございましょう, and ございましょう is an honorific of でしょう.

そうです --> そうでございます
そうでしょう？ --> そうでございましょう？

Actually, both いいえ and はい are possible. The latter would be more common, though.
気にしたりしてはいないだろうね？
いいえ。全く（気にしていません）。 / はい、もちろん（気にしていません）。

The answer must be いいえ for an affirmative question. はい means that the answerer is worried in this case.
気にしてるかね？
いいえ。全く。

Gosh. Is this still true when no other explanatory words are added in the reply? Can いいえ and はい both mean that the speaker is not worried and also both mean that the speaker is worried?

いいえ and はい both mean that the speaker is not worried, and never means the speaker is worried. The question 気にしたりしてはいないだろうね？ is actually for confirmation, not asking whether they are worried or not. The questioner expects the addressee is not worried. When the answerer is worried, they would reply いえ、それが実は。。。 or like that, not just yes or no.

Oh, one more thing please ... 「そうでござんしょうとも！」 is said by a school caretaker to a pupil whom he dislikes, to express disbelief in the pupil's story. Why would the caretaker use honorific language in this case? Is he being sarcastic?
