けど、いわんでおった difficulties

Hello,

If possible, please kindly help me with meaning of けど and いわんでおった in the following sentence:

けど よめさんに いわれた とおり わかものは いくらとも いわんでおった。

I would translate it as:

Although he was told by wife, walking young man, also did not asked for the price.

I am not sure about いわんで maybe it is ～て form of いわない. But i am not clear about conjugation rule which was used. When I tried to conjugate いわない as i-adjective, I could get only いわなくて.

Another difficulty is けど. I have translated it as "although". I am not sure it if is correct.
"Although" has meaning close to "but", yet according to text young man did exactly as he was told.

けど＝だけど: nevertheless
(In this case, this is used as a conjunction.)

よめさんに いわれた とおり: as told by wife

いわんでおった
This is a classical form of 言わないでいた. This might be a bit advanced, but ん is the euphonic change of the classical auxiliary verb ぬ which nagates verbs as same as ない in Modern Japanese.


"Neverthless, as he had been told by wife, the young man didn't answer how much the price was."

たくさんの ひとが うつくしいぬのを みて いくらだと きく。

Maybe I could translate it as:
Many people had saw the beautiful cloth and asked for the price

Could I ask little bit more. I am little bit unclear with も purpose:
けど よめさんに いわれた とおり わかものは いくらとも いわんでおった

If I omit it, would the meaning change much ?

Yes, that's right.

も emphasizes the meaning of negation when used in negative sentences, something like "never suggest any hints about the price at all". So いくらと いわんでおった/いくらとは いわんでおった can be acceptable, too.
