Hi,

1. それは、しんぱいだね。かまわないから、早く帰ってあ げなさい。

My translation: "That's worrying. OK then, I don't mind if you go home early."

I don't understand the meaning of あげなさい. I assume it is an imperative form of あげる, but in what sense is it being used?


2. ことわりの電話をかけさせる。

I think this means "(You always) make me make [some kind of telephone calls]". ことわり is said to mean "declining, refusal", but I still don't really get what ことわりの電話 means.


3. お酒をむりに飲ませる。 Could this mean "You unreasonably make me/us drink alcohol"?


4. わたしが、すてちゃいました。

Translation given: "I threw it away".

すてちゃ is presumably something to do with すてる, but what exactly does the ちゃ part mean? Is it just short for ては? Would that be grammatical?

3. 窶堋ｨﾅｽﾃｰ窶堙ｰ窶堙樞?堙ｨ窶堙架?ｹ窶堙懌?堋ｹ窶堙ｩﾂ。ﾂ Could this mean "You unreasonably make me/us drink alcohol"?

～てあげる＝to give a favour of doing ～
早く帰ってあげなさい Go home soon (for the person)

ことわりの電話 a phone call of decline = a phone call to say no

無理に（むりに） means forcefully
お酒をむりに飲ませる = to force someone to drink alcohol

すてちゃいました＝すててしまいました
～てしまう means completion.
わたしがすてちゃいました＝I've thrown it away (so it is no longer here, etc).

That's more likely "to make someone make a phone call ~," as undrentide-san translated in #3. Generally, it is needed to make clear who the causer and causee are, i.e., "You always make me make~" is for あなたはいつも私に～させる.

Hi undrentide, sorry but I am still a bit confused about this one.

Am I right that てあげなさい is an imperative? Who is doing whom a favour? Is the speaker asking the person they're talking to do them a favour, like "do me a favour and go home early"?

The context, if it helps, is that a bunch of female office workers are making complaints about their boss. This is one of the complaints.

the giver of the favour: the addressee
the receiver of the favour: the third person(the person the addresse is worried about)

早く帰ってくれ/下さい/くれませんか（i.e. くれる）is used for "do me a favour and go home early."

Thanks Toritoribe. The full dialogue, which probably I should have included in my original post, is:

A: 家内が病気なので、早く帰らせていただきたいんですが。
B: それは、しんぱいだね。かまわないから、早く帰ってあげなさい。

So, as far as あげなさい is concerned, B is asking A to give a favour to his (A's) wife, yes?

Yes, he's saying go ahead and get home to your wife (do her the favor of going home to take care of her, presumably).

Just one more thing. I would say this is more or less the same as being served alcohol in a restaurant or social situation. Where drinking is expected, it can be acceptably refused after the first one or two.

Of course there is a small percentage of the time it literally means to make someone intoxicated forcibly.
