あう and ある

I was wondering, when you conjugate these 2 verbs do they produce the same words? i.e. あいます、 あいません...

Or would ある become あます、 あません...

My primary study source for Japanese, i learned most of what i know from here(which isn't much, but it's a good start). Learn the particles (not from there), then go there. Other sources are good, too, but that site has a summary (very general and incomplete) guide to verb conjugations.

活用語尾がワ行とラ行(タ行もそうですが)の動詞の連用 形がともに促音便(っ)になるために起きる混同ですね。

会いて → 会って, ありて → あって

e.g. 添う(そう), 剃る(そる)
te-form: 添いて → 添って, 剃りて → 剃って


「在る」も「有る」も同じ活用形です。微妙に意味が違 いますが。
