In 1820, Kita Gizaemon, the founder, began brewing sake in Yōkaichi, located in the Kōtō Plain of Ōmi Province, an area known for its abundant harvests of high-quality Ōmi rice. At the time, the business operated under the trade name "Tenmaya," purchasing rice from local farmers to produce sake. Since then, the tradition of sake brewing has been passed down through generations. The brand name Kikaku-chō (喜楽長) was chosen to hope customers enjoy drinking sake with joy and happiness while leading long and prosperous lives.
