I previously purchased a WWII Japanese flag brought home by a U.S. solider which had a name and good luck wish written in ink.
This flag has a similar made ink mark consisting of a slightly downward facing checkmark symbol ✔ that begins within the sun disk and terminates in the outer white silk margin. It appears the smaller stroke was made first as you can see a accumulation of ink at the axis of the two checkmark arms whereas the pen momentary rested. The ink gradually gets thinner along the longer arm as the pen was drawn away from the flag.
Any special meaning for this mark? Or perhaps someone started to inscribe something but never finished or they messed up and used another flag.
