Crime Graffiti in Chinese discovered on pillars of Kasugataisha Shrine, Nara World Heritage Site

According to Nara Police Station, a visitor to the main hall reported to staff at around 11:10 a.m. on Sept. 9 that "there are characters written on a pillar." In addition to the east corridor pillar, staff also found graffiti on a pillar at the worship site located northeast of the main hall. The graffiti on the east corridor pillar consisted of 10 characters written about 120 centimeters above the ground. All appeared to be kanji characters, with some believed to be a personal name.
