Tokyo police officers will soon be sporting shades. 😎 To enhance officer safety and improve their ability to react quickly in bright conditions, the Metropolitan Police Department has authorized sunglasses for its security and mobile police units. Officers will have the discretion to wear sunglasses based on the situation but will be expected to remove them when interacting with the public. This policy change aims to create a better working environment for officers while maintaining public trust.

Eligible personnel must purchase their own eyewear and designs that grab attention or are colored will not be permitted. The National Police Agency issued an official notice of promoting countermeasures against the expected summer heat wave to police departments across the nation in April. Since then, police departments in each region have been taking various measures against the blistering heat.

Aichi and Nagasaki police are already allowed to don sunglasses.

Here in the US , body tattoos are being accepted for police to have and show. It took quite a while for the stigma of jail tats to go away. I wonder if Japan will go that route someday?
