More and more Japanese communities are considering moving overhead power lines underground.
In 2017, as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's initiative to revitalize urban landscapes, Tamba-Sasayama City in Hyogo Prefecture was chosen as a model district. The city began a project to remove overhead power lines in the castle town area to enhance its traditional ambience.
