Hikone Castle

Corridor of Rakuraku-en (楽々園)

This corridor forms part of Rakuraku-en, the former villa and reception complex of the Ii family. The residence was used to receive guests and to enjoy the adjacent Genkyū-en Garden (玄宮園). Built in the refined shoin-zukuri (書院造) style favoured by the warrior elite, the complex reflects the residential and ceremonial life of the lords of Hikone during the Edo period.
