Noh Stage (能舞台) at Rakuraku-en
Located within the Rakuraku-en (楽々園) villa complex, this Noh stage reflects the important role of performing arts in the cultural life of the Hikone domain. The painted pine tree (鏡板 kagami-ita) on the rear wall is a traditional feature of Noh theatres. Such stages were used for performances sponsored by the Ii family, combining artistic patronage with the ceremonial functions of a daimyo residence.
